Innovation happens on the street. It is here that young brands have the freedom to experiment and bring their passion to the public. This is the street vendor’s dream. The reality is wasted hours chasing local authorities and negotiating with market owners just to find a pitch. This is the problem street food trader Atholl Milton and design expert Darren Callcott set out to solve in 2016] . Together they came up with the idea for an app that would enable street vendors to book a pitch at the touch of a button. The idea was to reclaim the sector from bureaucracy and return it to the streets.
Today StreetDots has a network of pitches or dots across the UK used by street vendors. It has helped some of the country’s public and private landowners transform entire environments by enlivening outdoor space. Alongside this, it is working with local and national authorities to redefine the sector and make it relevant to our modern digital times.
